DAVID J GORDON  MSc BA FRSA
Founder & Creative Director, The Loom

After gaining a Masters in Pure & Applied Physics and Opto-Electronics, David went on to study 3-Dimensional (Product) Design at Ravensbourne College of Design & Communication, Kent, England.  Since then, David has had a long, varied and successful career involving the physical sciences, product design, graphic design, moving image, branding and creative strategy, and creative leadership.

He has led creative teams in areas such as News and Factual TV (Tomorrow's World) and, as Head of Design, he played a key role developing and establishing BBC Online (bbc.co.uk) as a world class service.  David has also worked developing visual storytelling techniques, writing, storyboarding and producing short-form graphic narrative films using data visualisation.  His work has been recognised internationally with awards from professional bodies in the industry.

Prior to setting up The Loom, he was involved as Creative Director in overseeing branding and design of the burgeoning language services within BBC Global News, utilising both bespoke commissioning and automated CPMS techniques.  Together with experience communicating creative vision and practice to peer professionals, external companies and creative teams, he has also spent a number of years as External Examiner within design education both in the UK and Hong Kong.

David monitors and contributes to conceptual arenas of international debate such as Doors of Perception, TED and Design Management Institute, pursuing collaborative projects via educational and business links, and he is a Fellow of the Royal Society Of Art.

“If design isn't good design, it's bad design. Design, whether good or bad, is not an accident of nature; it is the purposeful outcome of considered human decision-making. Therefore, there should be no excuse for bad design".
